Technology progressing in a burning world

The banks are falling, AI is taking your job, crypto is dead & we may all not make it after all...

Right now seems to be a dark time in many areas of technology. Through the likes of crypto, AI & the entire banking system being on its last legs… everyone is a ton more on the side of pessimism than optimism. With every progression, there seems to be someone shouting from the rooftops that we’re all going to die & the world is burning as we walk into new advancements of AI or extended use cases for cryptography.… but which side of the fence should you be on?

Optimist vs Pessimist

12,000 years ago the pessimist escaped near death 10/10 times because he was cautious there might be a lion nearby, the optimist lives 9/10 times & gets eaten by a lion on the 10th time.Today, In 2023 times are much different. There is no lion strolling around. So in most scenarios, it is optimal to be an optimist. The optimist wins in life because he takes risks toward an ideal outcome.Right now we are at a tipping point in my eyes in many parts of technology, especially the ones I’m focused on: AI & cryptocurrencies. The pessimist around these technologies sees them as follows:

  • AI will take so many jobs & put people out of work

  • Crypto is a scam, my cousin lost his money in crypto

  • AI is too risky to pursue, there’s a 1% chance it could wipe us out

  • No one will ever use crypto because I don’t

  • There’s no way crypto or AI can solve my problems or any real-world problems

The optimist around these technologies sees them as follows:

  • AI will create so many jobs & help people pursue creative work they actually like doing

  • Crypto has scams in it & they happen a lot, but the good parts remain with massive capabilities to be a better financial operating system.

  • AI may have some risks but it’s very likely the reward is curing diseases, ending poverty & much more major problems we have yet to solve

  • Crypto right now is not as easy to use for the normal user, but we can make it accessible & provide an optimal experience of this ultimately BETTER system.

The lists goes on with the above examples, but you may be able to tell that the pessimist has given up before even stepping into the possibility, there can be no progression after that point unless they change their mind.An optimist is someone who changes the minds of others through the results they bring after they decide “hey, this is possible”.

Take this example for an extended outlook on AI benefits vs Risk of AI takeover.

The terror of people about AI is they don’t know what negative effects it may have, or they think the negative effects have no counterbalancing positive effect. In reality, new solutions require a new frame of mind, & the things people called magic or deemed people witched for many moons ago are now modern technology & medicine. Another example on the AI side of things is this tweet & video which shocked me when I watched it…

Using AI you can replicate anyone’s voice & this guy made a song singing as Kanye West… “THAT’S AWESOME.” I thought… Other people in the comments didn’t think so: “This destroys the artist’s ability to create”, “This will be used to scam people”, etc. Although some points may hold some truths, all of these people had only views on why this new technology sucks, rather than seeing the optimist’s end goal: To allow anyone the tools to create. & to expand the possibilities of each human.

Change & progression

Many people will think when it comes to using crypto or AI systems thoughts about how what we have now is good enough & we don’t need to progress. At human nature’s core is evolution. In strides with evolution is also the creation of systems that fail. Right now we are seeing the traditional banking system fail a lot of people as banks are being saved at the cost of everyone else & inflation is on the rise again. So, we need something better. Cryptocurrency was invented for this purpose, to progress to a better financial system, but still many people reject it because the majority are too scared of change. The same thing is showcased in other technologies like AI, people don’t want to use AI & neglect it because it challenges them, and they don’t want to adapt to change to benefit from technology because it takes some amount of effort. The solution to these problems? Make progress. How to make progress? Work towards a better world optimistically.
