Making a living from my mom's basement 101
In February I made $11,000 working from my mom's basement doing things I mostly enjoy, here's a bit on my path & how you can go about creating your own.
We aren’t built for any one structure as humans… To me, “jobs” are an example of the money printing machine sending us into the abyss of whatever work pays the bills.Regardless of my above thoughts, I’ve chosen to work for myself in my mom’s basement. & In the 2nd month of this year (February) I made over $11,000 “working” under this glamorous occupation.Today I want to walk you through a little bit about this path & how you may be able to opt into a more ideal path for yourself (you don’t have to live in your mom’s basement) — in general, this will be written as if I was writing to my previous self, & the things I wish I knew back at the start of my departure from the idea of working a job.
My path
When I told you I made $11,000 in February this year you may believe I have it all figured out with this whole “work on the internet from my mom’s basement” thing. The truth is, I don’t. However, I also don’t think anyone has it all figured out. Perceiving struggle as progress has helped me get to this point where I’ve been able to make a great amount of money working for myself on the Internet. There were many times when I felt like caving in & quitting this more customized approach to making a living. All of these moments were caused by things being hard at the time.I realized something very early on in my way toward where I am today they didn’t let me let go of this approach…Freedom. I wanted to be free with my time, & I approached a multitude of ways to make that reality true. Eventually, I realized that the answer for me was to find a way to work for myself. In the first year of self-employment, I made less than $10,000. This is when I was spending the most time too on increasing my income. The following year in 2021 I made over $300,000, almost all of this coming from the last 4 months of the year. I lost almost all this money to taxes & cryptocurrency price decline…
In 2022 I sat around feeling mad & sorry for myself for far too long while I continued to work for myself making $1000-2000 on autopilot yielding from the successes I created in 2021.2023, this year only a few months have passed & my biggest month of income in a long time came in the 2nd month as I mentioned earlier. What I did not mention though was that this month was so high because I was doing work I didn’t enjoy as much in order to make more money.
This month of high income was a result of me picking up more freelance work & it wasn’t particularly hard or a high workload, but it was an outlier as I won’t always land big clients every month.Since then I’ve taken on a lot less freelance work and average far less per month in income, because at the end of the day what matters most to me is building a living that I can not only scale but enjoy & find fulfillment in. It may feel like crap to make a lot less money than you did the month before, but when you’re choosing to find a way to stay true to yourself, there is always more important factors than how much money you’re making THIS month. This is an entrepreneur’s path, & entrepreneurs bleed every day so they can win big.I witnesses this in 2021 & squandered my big win then, now it is time to get back on the horse, bleed a little every day & take back another big win.
Crafting a path
Creating a path means much more than just choosing how you make a living. You don’t need to have the same path as me, and you don’t need to “bleed every day” as I just mentioned about being in the line of entrepreneurship.— But you may choose to bleed every day. Especially if it is part of a path that lets you live your life to the fullest. At the end of the day, living in your mom’s basement is only 1 of 1 quadrillion paths you can choose to start your journey on, & you can’t always choose your starting point like in a video game, but you can venture off in any direction from where you are now. There are infinite paths available to the explorer. What is an explorer? My best description would be someone who follows their heart & genuine curiosities to their ends (or new beginnings).
Now diving deeper into an explorer, this next part may seem wishy-washy, & you may just think me to be some privileged kid in his mom’s basement (not denying that) but here goes a possible “hot take”
Anything that your heart is not in that you push forwards with for some vanity reasoning or excusable means — i.e. the approval of others, achieving some form of status, “there’s no other choice”. — all of these things have a cost. The cost is your soul. (ooOooOooo scary!)I don’t mean this in the sense that you’re going to the gates of fiery flames when you inevitably flop on the deck like a fish, what I mean is that each decision against your true nature is a lasting betrayal of your soul.At the same time, It’s not possible for most people to stay completely true to themselves at all stages of life especially because the reality is that we all need money to live in this modern world. But but BUTTTT… There is likely an opportunity in every single person's everyday life that allows them to either A) follow their curiosity or heart or B) continue under their comfort at the cost of their soul (OoOOooo scary, again!)Creating your own path is not necessarily hard, it is just an alien concept from what we are used to.Being trained all of our lives to work a job has made every other route look like an alien. With 4 eyes and glowing screen skin, this alien holds up a sign that says “no exit”This is the alien of creating your own path. & the best part about this section, is I’m ending it here to let you figure out the rest yourself.did you expect me to create your path for you? Sorry… but you can leave me a reply to this with the first steps you’ll be taking on your path.
